Familiar of Zero anime synopsis / summary
Zero no Tsukaima takes place in a world of
magic which
resembles medieval europe. The society is divided amongst the royalty,
nobles and commoners. Only royalty and the nobles can use magic, but
not all magic users are necessarily nobles or royalty. The main
character is Louise Françoise le Blanc de la
Vallière (we'll refer to her as Louise), the third daughter
of the Vallière family. Like all young nobles, Louise
attends a magi academy in Tristein to learn the magical arts. But the
other students give her the nickname "Zero Louise" after her sucess
rate at casting spells. As much as she tries, Louise's magic always
tended to be overpowered and missed the target. And unlike most
students who specialize in one of the magical elements of fire, water,
wind or earth, Louise was never successful at magic in any of the
elements.
One of the challenges for advancing from the first year at
the Tristein academy is for each student to summon a familiar. This
test worried Louise because she was never good at any spells, never
mind summoning a familiar. But she wasn't about to be called "Zero
Louise" forever, so when the time came she picked up her wand and
called for the most smart, strong and beautiful familiar ever. A huge
explosion occurs, which is not too unsual with Louise's spells. After
the smoke clears, all she had managed to summon is an ordinary looking
boy. The boy's name is Saito, he was just a normal high schooler living
in Japan when a portal opened and sucked him into Louise's world.
Embarassed and shocked at the results of her summoning,
Louise
requests to make another attempt. But the teachers remind her that the
familiar summoning process is sacred and can only be done once for each
magi. So Louise was stuck with a useless looking commoner for a
familiar to whom she had to make a contract with by physically kissing.
The confused Saito was as embarassed as Louise was when she kissed him,
but upon doing so a strange rune of light appeared on Saito's right
hand. Some of the high ranking mages recognized this symbol as the mark
of the Gandalfr, powerful familiars linked to the Void mages - powerful
magi who can use the lost fifth elemental magic of void.
