Background: Scrapped Princess began as a thirteen volume light novel written by Ichiro Sakaki and illustrated by Yukinobu Asami. The series was later adapted into a manga with art by Go Yabuki and was serialized in Monthly Comic Dragon in 2002. In 2003, Scrapped Princess was made into an anime produced by Bones.

Scrapped Princess anime synopsis / summary:

Scrapped Princess is a fantasy and adventure anime about the journey of Pacifica Casull, the so called “Scrapped Princess”, and those who wish to protect her from the assassins sent to end her life. In this fantasy world, the people worship a godly being named Mauser, whose malevolence is said to be reason why priests can use magic. Mauser’s The 5111th Grendel Prophecy predicted that Pacifica would be the poison which will destroy the world upon her sixteenth birthday. Fearing the prophecy would come true, Pacifica was thrown from a cliff while still a babe.

Fortunately, she was rescued by a court wizard and adopted into the Casull family. Her adoptive siblings, Shannon Casull the swordsman and Raquel Casull the priestess, have protected Pacifica’s identity since that time. Pacifica is now fifteen, but somehow rumors that the Scrapped Princess is still alive have surfaced and more and more people have appeared in search have her.

To protect their young sister, Shanon and Raquel decide to leave their home with Pacifica and keep moving from town to town. But the Church of Mauser’s powers extend to all corners of the country. Assassins have appeared more frequently and even the elite military unit Obstinate Arrow has been charged with hunting down Pacifica. Manipulating everyone from the shadows are the Peacmakers, powerful beings who are said to be the direct tools of Mauser in the world. And as Pacifica’s sixteenth birthday approaches, the dangers to her life become increasingly more deadly.
