Nodame
Cantabile anime synopsis / summary
Nodame Cantabile is about the relationship between the young
pianist Shinichi Chiaki and the strange girl Nodame who completely
changes his life. Shinichi is a talented pianist attending a
music college in Japan, but he is also arrogant and is very critical of
others. He visited Germany as a child and was mentored by the
famous orchestra conductor, Sebastino Viera. Since then, it has
always been Shinichi’s dream to travel abroad and follow in
Viera’s footsteps. However, due to a fear of flying and
also drowning, Shinichi is “trapped” in Japan.
Believing his musical talents are wasted by staying in Japan,
Shinichi develops a superiority complex. Finally, his peers are
fed up with his attitude and transfer him to a lower level class meant
to offer special help to “failures.” But it is there
that Shinichi meets Megumi Noda, a free spirited girl who insists on
being called Nodame. Although Megumi is childish and has
horrendous personal hygiene, she possesses an innate talent for
creating beautiful music. Shinichi can't seem to leave Nodame alone and makes it his duty to train her to be
more serious with music (and her hygiene). In the process, he begins to realize some of
his own faults and learns more about himself. In Nodame, Shinichi rediscovers the reason why he
became a musician.
