Lucky Star anime synopsis / summary:

Lucky Star is a comedy series in a school setting about a group of four friends.  The main character is Konata Izumi, who despite being naturally smart and athletic, is a hardcore anime and video games otaku.  She is intelligent, but because she’s lazy, her grades are just average.  Konata found a part time job, but the motivation behind that was the money to buy more games.  Tsukasa and Kagami Jiiragi are sisters.  Kagami is the elder sister and is a studious student, but is sometimes annoyed that Konata can get the same scores on tests as her just by cramming the night before.  Tsukasa is the younger sibling.  She has good intentions to work hard on school work, but usually ends up in the same boat as Konata.  Miyuki Takara is the all around perfect girl who is smart, beautiful and well-mannered.  She is also a bit clumsy, but usually in a way that makers her character even cuter, as the other girls have observed.

Lucky Star is very similar to Azumanga Daioh, another school comedy series that was adapted from a 4-koma (four panel) manga.  There is no plot in the series; the story generally follows the girls in their daily lives in and out of school.  The comedy in Lucky Star is well smart and witty, but can make reference to other anime or manga material.  This might lose some people, but the show can be enjoyed with or without the background knowledge.
