summary: Kanon is a story surrounding the main protagonist, Yuuichi Aizawa, and his experience in a snowy city where he rekindles the bonds he had shared with several girls in his childhood. Yuuichi's parents are traveling abroad and he has just started attending high school. He moves in with his aunt, Akiko Minase, and her daughter, Nayuki. Yuuichi remembers he had visited the city before when he was much younger, but can't remember any of the details of what happened in those days. The season is winter and the city is covered by snow. After stepping off the train, Yuuichi arrives at the spot where his cousin, Nayuki, is supposed to come meet him. But one thing that hasn't changed about the energetic Nayuki is her terrible sense of time. After being made to wait an hour in the snow, Nayuki finally arrives. To make up for being late, she agrees to show him around the city. The next day, Nayuki takes Yuuichi on a tour of the city. They pass by the high school he will be attending and visit a shopping district. Yuuichi meets several of Nayuki's girlfriends and greets them. He has faint memory flashes about each girl, but cannot recall where and how he met them in the past. At the end of the day, Nayuki stops by a store to shop for groceries but Yuuichi insists on waiting outside. Moments after Nayuki disappears into the store, an odd girl with a winged backpack rushes into him at full speed. She's teary eyed and clings tightly to a bag of taiyaki (treats). Strangely enough, Yuuichi has faint memories of the girl's face as well but it was also in his past. After calming down at a nearby cafe, she explains to Yuuichi that she accidentally stole the taiyaki after she discovered she lost her wallet. Yuuichi drags the girl back to the vendor to apologize and pays for the taiyaki himself. He parts with the odd girl but promises to meet up again sometime to play. Suddenly realizing he had ditched Nayuki at the store, he rushes back to find her angry and moody. Fortunately, Nayuki forgives him since she herself was late when she picked him up on the first day. As Yuuichi lay in bed that night, he recalls each of the girls he met that day. In his dreams her sees a figure of a girl, but can't identify her. He feels that something magical and mysterious occurred to him in this city, but why doesn't he feel nostalgic or remember those events? |
