synopsis

summary: Ikki Tousen's characters are named and roughly based on historical heroes from China's Three Kingdoms stories. But instead of warring states, the setting involves rival high schools which battle each other for power and influence. Students fight each using martial arts and carry with them a jewel called a magatama which is said to carry the souls and destinies of warriors from the Three Kingdoms period. A school's power is judged based on the skills of its most skilled martial artists. One girl named Sonsaku Hakufu, who recently enrolled in one of the schools, is said to be destined to unite all the schools much like her counterpart in ancient China did with all the states. However, there are those who do not recognize this fate and begin to challenge Sonsaku in battles. Sonsaku herself cares little for her destiny or the whole school rivalry business (she's quite an air-head). She just craves fighting, uneven battles especially make her even more excited. This causes quite a lot of trouble for her cousin, Shuyu Koukin, whom she is staying with. He has a crush on Sonsaku and wishes to protect her, but her knack for attracting trouble will likely drag him into some dangerous situations. Ikki Tousen is an odd series that combines history with hot girls and plenty of fanservice. Some say it works brilliantly, while others insist it's over the top. Best way is to check it out yourself, but in my book hot girls kicking ass is always a win. |
