Roots anime synopsis / summary .hack//roots follows the adventures of Haseo, a new player to the MMORPG known as the World R:2. Haseo did not know much about online games in the first place, his initiation was not a good one as he was immediately killed by PKs (player killers) who prey on newbies. He is revived by Ovan, a enigmatic character with a large cannon for his left arm. Ovan invited Haseo to join his guild, the Twilight Brigade, but initially Haseo turns him down. After wandering alone in the online world, Haseo realizes that adventuring alone is dangerous and time consuming to advance in levels. Not to mention the fact that he is a prime target for PKs. As well, a group known as the TaN guild has become interested in him, especially after they found Ovan talking to him. After speaking with Shino, a female member of the Twilight Brigade, Haseo is finally convinced to join Ovan’s guild. It is then that he discovers Ovan’s agenda; he intends to find the Key of the Twilight, an item that’s not supposed to exist in the game world because of its ability to manipulate game data without restriction. Haseo, it seems, holds an important piece of the puzzle in finding the Key. |
