    The main character is Filiel Dee, a young girl living in the countryside with her father, an astronomer. For her 15th birthday, Filiel Dee receives a beautiful necklace from her father and is told it had belonged to her mother. Filiel happily wears the necklace to a ball held to honor the queen’s birthday. She quickly grabs the attention of one the royal princes because she resembles the former queen, who had gone missing years ago. He also recognizes Filiel’s necklace as the mystical talisman which was the queen’s most precious possession. Filiel is upset because she believes the prince is accusing her of thievery, she leaves her necklace behind and flees home.

    That night, hooded figure arrive at Filiel’s father’s observatory and accuse them of being heretics. Filiel’s friend and her father’s assistant, Roux Ltskin, reveals to her that her father has been keeping fairy tale books, which are outlawed in their kingdom. The hooded men attempt to capture Filiel, but Roux helps her escape. As she runs away, she sees her home and her father’s observatory have been set on fire.

    In the morning, an exhausted Filiel collapses on a road. She is rescued by a princess of the royal family and brought back to the royal castle. When she regains consciousness, Filiel once again meets the prince who approached her on the night of the ball. But this time, he apologizes for his rudeness earlier and returns her necklace to her. He believes Filiel is actually the daughter of the former queen. This is confirmed when the talisman reacts to a drop of Filiel’s blood. In one night Filiel has turned from a commoner to a contender to be the next queen. Her mundane life has suddenly turned into one filled with conspiracies and adventures.
