Anime Summary / Synopsis:
Gegege no Kitaro mostly deals
with Japanese folklore and myths, but its meant more to entertain than
scare. The English equivalent may be something such as Casper
the Ghost, so the target age group is ideally 12-13 year olds or
younger. Kitaro is the main character. He, like all
his friends, is a sprit/demon creature based on popular Japanese
folklore. He only has one eye (his hair covers the
other half) and has various abilities such as the ability to shoot his
spiny hairs like arrows and generate electrical current to shock his
enemies. Some of his “interesting”
friends include Neko Musume (Cat Girl), Nezumi Otoko (Rat Boy),
Sunakake Babaa (Sand Throwing Hag) and Konaki Jijii (Crying Old
Man). However, they are not evil creatures, but instead try
to build peace between humans and demons. Each episode often
involves Kitaro and his gang protecting human children from being
preyed upon by evil demons.
