Edward Elric

Edward "Ed" Elric

Elder brother of the Elric brothers. Despite being short for his age, Ed is hot headed and easily provoked (especially about his height). He may be considered alchemy genius as he became a State Alchemist at age 12, his military code name is Full Metal. Ed has the innate talent of performing alchemy without the aid of a transmutation circle or array. Ed's left leg and right arm were lost when he and Al attemptedhuman alchemy. They are replaced with automail.

Ed's automail allows him free movement. He can also transform it into a weapon during combat

The Silver Watch is a badge carried by all State Alchemists, it amplifies the power of a transmutation array

The ability to transmute without an alchemy array is possessed only by expert alchemists

Alphonse "Al" Elric

The younger brother of the Elric brothers. Al lost his whole body in the attempt with Ed to perform human alchemy. Thanks to Ed's quick actions, Al's soul lives on residing in a suit of armor. Al is calmer and more passive than Ed, and often needs to hold back his brother's hot temper. Al can also use alchemy but is not a State Alchemist.

Winry Rockbell

Winry is the childhood friend of the Elric brothers. Winry is a talented automail mechanic like her grandmother. She takes on the role of maintaining Ed's automail as he often damages them during his travels. Her parents were doctors who served the military but died in the war in Ishbal. Winry cares for the Elric brothers like her own family, though her relationship with Ed may go beyond friendship.

Automail Rockbell is run by Winry and her grandmother in Ed and Al's hometown

Winry is a self proclaimed gearhead. She is an expert mechanic and loves to tinker

Winry's dog, Den, grew up with her from childhood. His left front leg has been replaced with automail
