		Elfen Lied Elfenlied Elfen Song Elven Song Media: Anime, Manga Origin: Weekly Young Jump Creator: Lynn Okamoto Vintage: 2002 Background: Elfen Lied is a manga written and drawn by Lynn Okamoto. Although it casts cute girls as its main characters, the Elfen Lied series has mature and horror themes. A 13 episode anime adaptation was released in 2004, followed by an OAV in 2005.
	Story: The main character is a pink haired girl named Lucy. Lucy is a Diclonius, mutant homo sapiens who are easily identified by the two protruding horns on their heads. The Diclonius possess a supernatural power that is best described as a type of telekinesis where invisible or translucent 'vectors' reach out from the Diclonius to attack their targets or defend itself. It is said that the Diclonius are the next evolution of man, and their purpose is to replace mankind by destroying it. Lucy and her brethren were much feared by the government. Because of the dangerous power they possess, captured Diclonius are usually killed immediately. But a secret agency has been keeping live Diclonius in an isolated laboratory in order to further their own agendas. Lucy was captured at a young age and has spent most of her life isolated in her special cell in the lab. She has grown very angry at the world of mankind and has become psychotic. But one day due to an act of sabotage Lucy escapes from her prison, killing anyone who stood in her way. She makes it to the outside, but a bullet gets past her defenses and lands a glancing blow on her head. Lucy loses consciousness and falls into the ocean. Lucy washes upon a beach and regains consciousness, but has lost her memories. Lucy's persona reverts into a childlike state where the only words she can say is "nyuu". She is discovered by Kouta and his cousin Yuka, who are shocked at finding the naked girl who is bleeding from her head. They take Lucy back to their home to treat her wounds and clothe her. Because Lucy can't communicate with them, they allow her to stay in their home while they try to figure out who she is. They name her Nyu because it is the only word she says. Nyu is living happily with Kouta and Yuka, but her Lucy persona is slowly resurfacing. This puts Kouta and Yuka in great danger since Lucy has no qualms about killing humans on sight. But when Lucy reemerges and attempts to kill Kouta, a memory of Kouta and herself as young children suddenly appears in Lucy's mind. It seems Lucy and Kouta had met before in their childhood, but something horrific happened back then. It was so traumatic that Kouta has repressed the memory, and so does not recognize Lucy/Nyu in the present day. Meanwhile, the government agency which lost Lucy is not standing idle while one of their Diclonius is loose in the public. They order a special assault squad to track down Lucy. They also send one of their trained Diclonius, Nana, to seek out Lucy and either recapture or destroy Lucy.
