Background: Code Geass R2 is the second season of the first series. Code Geass is set in an alternate universe where the Britannia Empire has conquered Japan. CLAMP colloborated on the character designs, a first for the female mangaka group outside of its own series. Code Geass has also been adapted into manga and novel media featuring alternate storylines. Code Geass R2 is also directed by Goro Taniguchi.

Anime Summary / Synopsis:

Code Geass R2 continues one year later after the conclusion of the events from the first season. Japan has been conquered by the expanding Britannia Empire and has had its status as an independent nation demoted to a remedial territory known only as Area 11. Lelouch Lamperouge, under the alias of Zero, led the Black Rebellion in an attempt to defeat Britannia, but failed in the end. Season 2 begins with a brainwashed Lelouch back attending school with himself and his schoolmates having no apparent memory of what has happened one year ago. What's stranger is that Lelouch's younger sister, Nanalie, is no where to be seen. In her place is a person named Rolo Lamperouge, supposedly Lelouch's younger brother. But things are about to change when C.C., the mysterious girl who originally gave Lelouch his geass powers, seeks out Lelouch to return his memory and revive the man known as Zero.
