summary: Claymore is set in a medieval like world where evil monsters called Yoma who prey on the human settlements. Yoma feed on human innards and have superior strength and speed. But what makes the Yoma truly frightening is their ability to shapeshift into human form and even take on the memories and behaviours of those they consume. Once they infiltrate a town, they can slowly feed on the population while remaining hidden as another townsperson. It is said that the only creature that can hunt down a Yoma is another Yoma. That is why an unnamed organization implanted Yoma blood and flesh into human beings in order to create the ultimate hunter. These hybrid hunters all share the distinct features of silver hair and eyes, and have the strength, speed and regenerative ability to take on a Yoma. They all carry large swords called a claymores, hence it is the name they are referred to by the townspeople. The Yoma half will eventually take over the body, but women tend to be more resistant to its effects so all Claymores are young women. Claymores travel from town to town to hunt down hidden Yoma in exchanged for payment. Because they are half-Yoma themselves, Claymores are usually feared by the people. The story focuses on the adventures of a young Claymore named Clare. whose own parents were murdered by Yoma at a young age. On an assignment in a remote town, Clare meets a young boy named Raki whose parents were murdered by a Yoma. Raki took an interest in Clare and was the only one in town who was not afraid to talk to her. Clare eventually killed the Yoma plaguing the town, who was disguised as Raki’s own brother. The townspeople feared Raki would turn into a Yoma and banished him to the wilderness. Although unusual for a Claymore, Clare sympathized with Raki and allowed him to travel with her. |
