Background: Clannad was originally a visual novel game developed by Japanese software developer Key who also made Air and Kanon. Clannad has been adapted into various manga series since the game release in 2004. The anime adaptation first aired in 2007 and was directed by Tatsuya Ishihara (The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi)

| Anime Summary / Synopsis: Clannad is an Irish term for “clan” or “family.” The value of family is an important theme in the story of Clannad. Tomoya Okazaki is the main male protagonist of Clannad. His mother died in a car accident years ago and as a result his dad fell into gambling and alcoholism. After a fight with his dad where he was injured, the father and son have grown distant from each other ever since. Tomoya is labelled as a delinquent at his school because he is constantly late and skips classes, but he seems to have little care about how others perceive of him. Everything in his life seemed dull and unchanging until one morning he meets Nagisa Furukawa, a female student, on the road to his school. Nagisa was muttering to herself to give her more motivation for the day. She has an odd habit of saying the names of foods she is going to eat to encourage himself. Nagisa had been sick for almost a year last year and subsequently has to repeat her third year of school. But now all her friends have graduated and she feels alone. For some reason, after hearing Nagisa talking to herself, Tomoya becomes interested and befriends her. Clannad anime screenshots:
