Le Chevalier D'Eon anime synopsis / summary: Le Chevalier

D'Eon is set in 18th century France which is on the verge of the French Revolution. Lia de Beaumont and her young brother D’Eon de Beaumont both worked for the imperial court in the service of King Louis XV. However, after leaving for Russia on an important mission, Lia was found murdered and her body was sent down the Seine river floating in a coffin. On it was written the words ‘Psalms.”

D’Eon, who s also a member of the secret police, swore he will find his sister’s murderers and unravel the mystery surrounding her death. His only clue is a bundle of documents he received from his sister before she was fund dead. With help from the other members of the secret police, they manage to find a link to a smuggling ring which kidnaps young French women. Upon further investigation, they found evidence that the women were being used in horrific alchemy rituals where their blood is replaced with mercury. They soon discover that there is an entire cult surrounding the alchemy experiments and that some people of high power may be involved as well. One these people is the Duc D’Orleans the king’s own uncle. He is collaborating with a mysterious figure known as Earl St. Germain.

They soon learn that they are facing a conspiracy far greater than anything they can handle. One night, almost all of the members of the secret police are brutally murdered. D’Eon himself narrowly escaped. He found his home ransacked and a note telling him to come to an old crypt with the documents he received from Lia or his friend and fellow secret police member, Bernis, will be killed.

D’Eon goes to the location alone but discovers that Bernis had his blood replaced with mercury. Bernis goes insane with rage and attacks D’Eon with monstrous strength. D’Eon is no match for the transformed Bernis, but then a voice suddenly emerges from inside him and takes over his body. When D’Eon gets to his feet again, he has been possessed by the soul of his sister, Lia. But unlike the gentle and elegant Lia D’Eon fondly remembers, this Lia is filled with sorrow and hatred, and above all she wants revenge on her murderers.
