5 Centimeters per Second anime synopsis / summary: Byousoku 5 Centimeter, translated as 5 Centimeters per Second, is stated in the film as the speed at which a sakura petal falls to the ground. The film is the story of two childhood friends who overcome many obstacles to maintain their relationship. It is split into three episodes: Okashou, Cosmonaut and Byousoku 5 Centimeter. Takaki Tono and Akari Shinohara are close childhood friends who, due to family issues, were separated after elementary school. However, the two shared a deep bond and kept in contact by exchanging letters. A few years have passed and both Takaki and Akari have entered adolescence. Takaki and Akari promise to meet each other despite living in different cities. On a snowy day, Takaki boards a train for the long journey to reach Akari.
