Baldr Force is a mecha anime set in a world where cyber network hacking has become a form of terrorism. Technology has evolved to the point where people can enter into a virtual world by plugging a cable into an implant chip directly connected to their brain and spinal cord. Individuals can have vivid experiences in the virtual worlds, but in extreme cases, also can be killed. Hackers and security forces such as the UN's FLAK use virtual mecha called Simulacrums inside the networks. But being killed in a battle between Simulacrums usually means being killed in real life.
Tooru was the ace hacker on Steppen Wolf, an elite group of hackers. Lately, their activities have become too dangerous and the founder, Yuuya, wants to disband. For their last gig, they decide to hack into the FLAK network so as to go out with a bang. But things go very wrong from the start and Yuuya is killed in the escape. FLAK's agents storm the Steppen Wolf hideout and arrest everyone.
But when Tooru is brought in for
interrogation, the FLAK officer actually offers him a chance to join
their anti-cyber terrorism unit. Tooru was reluctant but
agrees if
FLAK also released the rest of Steppen Wolf. He joins FLAK
with the
ulterior motive of seeking revenge for Yuuya by finding the FLAK
Simulacrum which murdered him. But on his first mission, he
encounters
the highly dangerous hackers from 'Fei Dao' and realizes he is in a
different league now.
